CONCORD, N.C. – All those throwback cars under the lights at Darlington Raceway made for a remarkable sight Sunday night.
And the most remarkable of all the rides – according to the vote of the fans – was William Byron’s No. 24 Axalta Rainbow Throwback Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Prior to the start of the Southern 500, Byron’s ride was announced as Darlington Raceway’s “Best in Show.”
The rainbow-themed scheme commemorated Jeff Gordon’s iconic rainbow ride from the 1990s, one of the most memorable No. 24 paint schemes of all-time.
Byron started Sunday’s race inside the top 10 and moved as high as the top five early in the event, but an engine issue ultimately cut his day short as he was scored 35th.
