CONCORD, N.C. – Friday evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Cup Series tackled the ‘roval’ to qualify for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400.
Of the 16 playoff drivers, only eight advanced to the final round of qualifying, and three of them were Hendrick Motorsports teammates.
Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson all finished the first round inside the top six to move on.
In the final round, Bowman led his teammates with a third-place qualifying effort. Elliott joined him inside the top five, qualifying fourth.
Johnson was right behind his teammates, putting down a sixth-place qualifying run.
William Byron did not advance past the first round, qualifying 21st.
Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 is scheduled for 2 p.m. on NBC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Elliott, Bowman and Johnson will look to advance to the Round of 12 in the playoffs in what should make for a thrilling elimination race.
