Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation finds partner to fight childhood cancer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The mission of the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation is to support children battling cancer.

And thanks to Bob Douglas of Kihei, Hawaii, the foundation will be able to accomplish that goal two-fold this holiday season.

As part of the Giving Back matching donation campaign, Douglas has agreed to match dollar-for-dollar the first $100,000 in contributions to the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation received between Dec. 2, 2014, and Feb. 22, 2015.

"Through his generosity, Bob has shown us the true spirit of giving. His gift has allowed us to double our impact in funding promising new cancer research for children battling this disease," Gordon said.

Douglas, who lost his eyesight nearly 50 years ago, has spent much of his life giving back. The 79-year-old is an advocate for people with disabilities, and he has worked with local and national charitable organizations.

"This holiday season when giving is at the forefront of our minds, I am asking others to remember the children and families that are currently in treatment or will receive a cancer diagnosis this holiday season and make a donation to support them," Douglas said.

All funds raised through the matching donation program will directly fund pediatric cancer research aimed at age-appropriate and personalized cancer treatment for children.
