Chatting With Kyle

Team Lowe’s racing driver Kyle Busch sits down for a quick chat about his rookie year in the NASCAR Busch Series. What’s been the biggest surprise for you in your first full season in NASCAR? Probably being this successful right off the bat. We’ve been able to run really well, and we’ve been getting a lot of top-10s and top-fives and we’ve gotten some wins already this year. The success rate has probably been the biggest shock. Team Lowe’s Racing is doing an awesome job, and it takes 100 percent of everybody to make this thing happen. What are some of the highlights of the year? One of the biggest highlights was winning our first pole this March at Darlington, one of the toughest tracks we go to. Then winning the pole at Richmond, and winning that race was another highlight. Of course, winning at Lowe’s Motor Speedway was awesome. Those are probably the three biggest highlights of this year. In addition, the Kentucky race was great. We had to go to the backup car and the team worked all night and got there early on Saturday to get it as close to the primary car as possible. They’re awesome -- we came from the back of the pack in our backup car and ended up winning the race. It’s all because of the team. I’m just lucky to get to drive for them. Michigan, where you won by nearly four seconds, was a very impressive performance for Team Lowe’s Racing. How did that victory make you feel? Great! Just to race against legends like Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace is a dream come true, but to finish ahead of Mark Martin, the guy that owns just about every Busch Series record, is unbelievable. I’ve watched the tape a couple of times to make sure it really happened. With all the hype that’s surrounding the “Chase for the Championship” in the NEXTEL Cup Series, do you think it would have been a good idea to put the same format in place for the Busch Series? I think it probably would have been a great idea. Obviously, they’ve made such a big deal out of who’s going to be in the top-10 in the Cup Series and who’s not. It probably could have been a great advantage for the guys that are mired in eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th in our series as well.
