When the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams take to the track this October at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, they all will be sporting special platinum paint schemes celebrating the 20th anniversary of the organization.
The Hendrick stable will run their usual designs, but in a platinum, dark grey and black color combination. The only change to each layout will be a special “20 Years of Racing” logo placed on the decklid of the car to commemorate the occasion.
Saturday night’s NEXTEL Cup race is not the only notable occasion for Hendrick Motorsports that weekend.
On Friday night, Team Lowe’s Racing driver Jimmie Johnson will be competing in his first NASCAR Busch Series event since 2001. Johnson will run along with Hendrick teammate and Busch Series regular Kyle Busch in “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300.”
The Lowe’s Chevrolets of Johnson and Busch will run unique paint schemes celebrating the movie. The No. 48 car of Jimmie Johnson will carry the image of SpongeBob SquarePants on its hood while the No. 5 machine of Kyle Busch will display SpongeBob’s starfish friend Patrick.
“This sounds so cool,” Johnson says. “Plus how can we go wrong with SpongeBob helping us out on the car?”
Johnson’s No. 48 Lowe’s/SpongeBob SquarePants Busch Series Chevrolet will be under the guidance of his Cup Series crew chief Chad Knaus and will be pitted by his No. 48 Team Lowe’s Racing Cup Series pit crew.
