Lowe’s to Honor 20th with ‘Days of Thunder’ Broadcast

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 23, 2004) – In honor of Hendrick Motorsports’ 20th anniversary, Lowe’s is presenting a special broadcast of the 1990 motion picture “Days of Thunder,” starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. The movie is scheduled to be aired by TNT on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. ET, immediately following the network’s NASCAR Busch Series broadcast. The program will re-air Sunday, Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. ET, prior to the live NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event from Dover (Del.) International Speedway that airs at 12:30 p.m. ET. The movie will be interspersed with special remembrances by team owner Rick Hendrick and several of his drivers, including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch. Hendrick was a technical advisor for the film, which was loosely based on the lives of driver Tim Richmond and crew chief Harry Hyde, who played integral roles in the early development of Hendrick Motorsports. “This was really a neat idea, and I’m very grateful to Lowe’s and TNT for all their effort,” Hendrick said. “Working on ‘Days of Thunder’ was a fun experience and one I’ll never forget, but it couldn’t have been done without the hard work of so many dedicated people. “It really was a massive undertaking.” Lowe’s is the sponsor of Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 Chevrolets in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, as well as the No. 5 Chevrolets in the NASCAR Busch Series. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2004, Hendrick Motorsports fields five full-time teams in two different NASCAR divisions with drivers Terry Labonte, Gordon, Brian Vickers, Johnson and Busch. The organization has won nine NASCAR championships in the last decade, including five at the NEXTEL Cup level.
