Gordon Wins Pepsi 400

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2004) – Jeff Gordon returned to Victory Lane for the second straight week after winning the Pepsi 400 from the pole position at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. The race proved an impressive showing for the entire Hendrick NEXTEL Cup fleet -- with Jimmie Johnson clinching the runner-up position, Terry Labonte coming home in the eighth-spot and rookie Brian Vickers recording a ninth-place finish. Gordon’s triumph in the No.24 DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet was his 68th NEXTEL Cup Series win and marked the 124th victory for Hendrick Motorsports in NASCAR’s elite division. The Vallejo, Calif., native became the first driver in over two decades and only the fifth driver in modern era history to win the Pepsi 400 from the front spot on the grid.
