Great Finish for Green at Rockingham

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 5, 2002) -- David Green earned his second NASCAR Busch Series top-five after just four races behind the wheel of the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet on Saturday at North Carolina Speedway, finishing fourth in the Sam’s Club 200. Starting from the outside of Row One, Team GMAC’s best position of the season, Green proved to have one of the better machines in the 43-car field, although he joked that the qualifying effort was tainted by the fact that his brother, NASCAR Winston Cup Series regular Jeff Green, won the pole. “We had a great run, but it stinks to miss the pole by .004 to your younger brother,” said Green. “This is the same car Ricky (Hendrick) brought here in the spring and it ran really well then.” A former Busch Series champion, Green has earned three top-10 finishes and another top-15 since taking over for Hendrick in October. Driving the No. 24 NetZero Chevy, Jack Sprague earned his 15th top-10 of the season, finishing 10th overall at the Rockingham, N.C., race track after starting sixth. “It was a good day for the NetZero team,” Sprague said. “We qualified pretty good and honestly the car was better than our finish. The car was a little tight, but it came around pretty quick and it was fast. “The guys were awesome, as they always are in the pits. I just didn't get a good set of tires at the end and the car was extremely loose and ended up fighting to drive it. We desperately needed a caution, but it came to late in the race for us to gain any ground.” The three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion remains fifth in Busch Series championship points, just 65 behind fourth-place Mike McLaughlin. The NASCAR Busch Series will next visit the 1-mile oval of Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, Nov. 9, with live coverage on NBC (2 p.m. ET) and MRN Radio (2:30 p.m. ET).
