DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2003) – Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy, drew the outside pole position for Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, a special event featuring 19 drivers from the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
Also participating will be Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates Terry Labonte and Jeff Gordon, who weren’t as lucky. Labonte, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Monte Carlo, will start 17th overall, while Gordon, a four-time Winston Cup champion, will be second-to-last in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet.
Geoffrey Bodine landed the pole position.
The Budweiser Shootout, which will run under the lights at Daytona on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST, features 2002 Winston Cup pole winners, along with past champions of the event. FOX will televise the 70-lap race live in primetime, with the Motor Racing Network (MRN) handling the radio broadcast.
