DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 11, 2003) – The first official on-track business for the NASCAR Busch Series drew to a close Tuesday afternoon at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
After two practice sessions on Tuesday, Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, posted a fast lap of 181.422 mph, putting him 27th overall during the session.
During the morning practice, Vickers ran a lap of 180.792 mph, good enough for 25th.
“We still have a couple of things to try out on Wednesday morning,” Vickers said. “I think you’ll see us pick up some time, but so will everyone else. Of course, you want to do the best you can in qualifying, but Saturday’s race is the reason we’re here.”
Of the two practice sessions on Tuesday, Kerry Earnhardt was the fastest overall with a lap of 183.921 mph.
Busch Series teams will have one more practice session on Wednesday morning before afternoon qualifying at 2:45 p.m. EST at Daytona International Speedway.
