HAMPTON, Ga. (March 8, 2003) – Joe Nemechek and Jimmie Johnson were the two fastest Hendrick Motorsports drivers during the final “Happy Hour” NASCAR Winston Cup Series practice at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Driving the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevrolet, Nemechek was sixth in the session with a speed of 186.259 mph, followed by Johnson and Team Lowe’s Racing in eighth at 186.134 mph.
Four-time Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon was 22nd in the No. 24 DuPont Chevy, while Terry Labonte, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Monte Carlo, was 23rd.
Ryan Newman, who earned the Bass Pro Shops/MBNA 500 pole position on Friday, turned the quickest lap around the 1.54-mile speedway at 187.487 mph.
