FORT WORTH, Texas (March 27, 2003) – Despite never having been to Texas Motor Speedway, it didn’t take long for Brian Vickers to find the fast way around the 1.5-mile track.
Vickers, driver of the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, posted a lap of 186.471 mph during Thursday’s NASCAR Busch Series qualifying session at Texas after holding the pole position for a brief period.
The 19-year-old will start on the inside of Row 3 in the No. 5 Chevrolet next to current Busch Series point leader Todd Bodine. The fifth-place effort marks GMAC Racing’s best qualifying position of the season.
Jason Keller, driver of the No. 57 entry, captured the pole for Saturday’s race with a lap of 187.474 mph.
Busch Series teams will have one final practice session on Friday morning to make any last-minute adjustments for the race.
