LOUDON, N.H. (July 19, 2003) – Jimmie Johnson led Hendrick Motorsports in the final NASCAR Winston Cup Series “Happy Hour” practice on Saturday at New Hampshire International Speedway, posting the third-best lap of 43 teams.
Johnson’s speed of 130.042 mph put him just two positions ahead of teammate Terry Labonte, who finished the session fifth at 129.878 mph in the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevrolet.
Four-time Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon was sixth overall in the No. 24 DuPont Chevy, while Joe Nemechek was 15th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Monte Carlo.
Driving the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy, Johnson was also third-quickest in the day’s first practice at 129.375 mph, followed by Gordon in fourth, Labonte in sixth and Nemechek in 15th.
Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 entry, led both sessions.
