Dover 2nd Most-Watched Sporting Event of Weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 26, 2003) - The MBNA America 400, the NASCAR Winston Cup race held last Sunday at Dover International Speedway and televised by NBC, was the second most-watched sporting event of the weekend.

Despite Sunday's busy sports calendar, the NASCAR Winston Cup race held its own against NFL Week 3, Women's World Cup Soccer and the Indy Racing League event. The MBNA America 400 trailed only the NFL in viewership, and was the weekend's most-watched motorsports event.

A total of 4,591,000 households tuned in, a 31% increase over last season's 3,497,000 households. An average of 6,636,000 viewers tuned in to the MBNA America 400, a 30% increase over 5,117,000 viewers in 2002.

Last Saturday's Stacker 200, the NASCAR Busch Series event at Dover televised by TNT, was the weekend's second most-watched motorsports event.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which didn't race last weekend, continues its upward climb on the Speed Channel. Through 18 of 25 races, original broadcasts of NASCAR Craftsman Truck events have earned a 17% increase in viewership over 2002.
