CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 19, 2004) – UMI Publications today announced the launch of the new book “Twenty Years of Hendrick Motorsports,” which documents the history of Rick Hendrick’s racing organization and its two decades of NASCAR competition.
“This book was done with our fans in mind and I hope they enjoy it,” Hendrick said. “There have been so many wonderful people behind the scenes that contributed to our success over the years and I’m glad we can recognize them in this way.”
Penned by award-winning journalist Ben White, “Twenty Years” tells the story of the people behind the success of Hendrick Motorsports, winners of nine NASCAR championships and 163 NASCAR-sanctioned events.
Containing more than 200 full-color photographs, the coffee-table-style book features dozens of shots that have never been published, including rare photography of Jeff Gordon’s first-ever Winston Cup Series test session and pictures from the Hendrick family’s private collection.
The 176-page piece is dedicated to the memory of Dan Lohwasser, who led Hendrick’s marketing and public relations efforts until his passing in 2002. It was Lohwasser who first spearheaded the project more than three years ago.
The book can be purchased in the Hendrick Motorsports Team Store throughout the May 26-28 fan festival or online at www.HendrickMotorsports.com. It is also available directly from the publisher by visiting www.umipub.com or by calling 800-747-9287 toll free.
Since 1984, Hendrick-owned cars have been driven by the likes of Geoffrey Bodine, Ricky Craven, Rick Hendrick, Ricky Hendrick, Jerry Nadeau, Joe Nemechek, Benny Parsons, Tim Richmond, Ricky Rudd, Ken Schrader, Jack Sprague and Darrell Waltrip.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2004, Hendrick Motorsports currently fields five teams in two different NASCAR divisions with drivers Terry Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Brian Vickers, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch.
