WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 14, 2004) – Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet led Hendrick Motorsports in Saturday’s pair of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series practices at Watkins Glen International.
The four-time champion paced the morning session at 122.442 mph, and then posted the second-best lap in the final “Happy Hour” practice with a 122.643-mph speed.
In the early practice, Gordon was followed by teammates Jimmie Johnson in 10th, Brian Vickers in 14th and Terry Labonte in 34th.
Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy, was 14th in Happy Hour, while Vickers was close behind with the 15th-best lap in the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Monte Carlo.
Labonte, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet, was 29th in the final practice.
Robby Gordon was quickest in the last session at 123.095 mph.
