Rose Named in Memory of Ricky Hendrick

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 21, 2007) - On May 4-6, 2007, the Charlotte Rose Society hosted the American Rose Society's annual Miniature Rose Show and Convention at the Charlotte Omni Hotel. Rose lovers from 17 states came to exhibit and judge miniature roses and attend lectures and social events. The sponsors of the convention were Rick and Linda Hendrick. A red mini-flora rose was hybridized by Dennis Bridges of Bridges' Roses and given the name "Ricky Hendrick" in memory of the Hendrick's late son. "We are so honored and privileged to have the opportunity to have our son, Ricky, live on in the name of this beautiful rose," said Linda Hendrick. Ricky Hendrick was born and raised in Charlotte and quickly developed a love for auto racing and a passion for helping those in need. At 21, he was the youngest driver to win a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and later became the youngest car owner (at 23) to win a NASCAR Busch Series championship. The latter record still stands.
