All-Star recap: Martin highest finisher in sixth

CONCORD, N.C. (May 16, 2009) -- Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, both leaders during Saturday's NASCAR Sprint All-Star event, couldn't hold onto the top spot, and Tony Stewart surged past for the win in the million-dollar race. Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Chevrolet, was the highest Hendrick Motorsports finisher during Saturday's 100-lap, non-points paying race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Martin, who was competing in his 20th all-star event, finished sixth. Dale Earnhardt Jr. lined up fourth in his No. 88 The Dale Jr. Foundation/AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet, but struggled with handling early in the race. He climbed back to finish 10th. Johnson started from the pole position in his No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet and comfortably led the first 50 laps. With 10 laps to go, Johnson was running fifth and fighting for position when he spun out on the backstretch. He crossed the finish line 13th. Gordon, who led twice for 11 laps, came up short in his bid for a fourth all-star win when he was involved in an accident in Turn 4 with eight laps to go. Gordon finished 19th.
