Gordon's Celebrity Bowl benefits Riley Hospital for Children

INDIANAPOLIS (July 27, 2009) – Jeff Gordon remembers his Indiana roots. The four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, who grew up in Pittsboro, hosted the eighth annual Gordon’s Celebrity Bowl last Thursday at Western Bowl in Indianapolis. The event generated $250,000 for Riley Hospital for Children, which will be invested in the critical, lifesaving pediatric research being conducted at Riley Hospital in partnership with Indiana University. Earlier in the day Gordon visited with patients and families at the Riley Hospital for Children Cancer Center. The invitation-only event featured celebrities including Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, Sam Hornish, Jr., Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, Ron Hunter and Riley Hospital for Children patients and physicians. Team members bowled three games -- each with a different celebrity -- and had their team photo taken with Gordon. A live auction was held along with a chance to win prizes through the “Pins for Pediatrics” raffle. Approximately 550 people attended. “We are very excited to have raised $1.5 million in support of Riley Hospital for Children during this event's eight-year history," said Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. “Funds raised from this year’s tournament will support their ongoing research for pediatric cancer.” “Jeff Gordon is truly passionate about his commitment to children. But, as importantly, he demonstrates it in the time and attention he gives to Riley patients and to all children,” said Kevin O’Keefe, president and CEO of Riley Children’s Foundation. “Jeff’s support comes from the heart, as does our gratitude.” The play room in the Riley Hospital for Children Cancer Center has been named in recognition for Gordon’s ongoing support of Riley Hospital.
