OLD LYME, Conn. (Nov. 2, 2009) -- Hendrick Motorsports, one of NASCAR’s premier racing organizations, has commissioned Callaway Cars to develop and construct a limited-edition series of “Hendrick Motorsports 25th Anniversary” 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS high-performance vehicles.
Callaway is taking a comprehensive approach to engineering the serialized Hendrick Motorsports 25th Anniversary Callaway Camaros. Power has been increased from 426 to 582 horsepower using Callaway’s Eaton TVS series supercharger, high-flow air filtration system, low-restriction exhaust system and specific engine management calibration. Vehicle dynamics have been improved with new Callaway coil springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. New Callaway wheels provide more track width for improved handling.
Aerodynamic enhancements include the Callaway-manufactured carbon fiber front splitter, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and rocker panels. Hendrick Motorsports 25th Anniversary badging is displayed on the car’s exterior, interior and under the hood. Quarter-mile elapsed times of 11.89 seconds at 120.1 mph have been achieved with original-equipment tires. Zero-to-60 mph takes 3.9 seconds.
The first Hendrick Motorsports 25th Anniversary Callaway Camaro will be on display Nov. 3-6 in conjunction with the Chevrolet exhibit at the 2009 SEMA show in Las Vegas. In November, the cars will be available for purchase at Hendrick Chevrolet (Cary, N.C.), Rick Hendrick Chevrolet (Duluth, Ga.), Superior Chevrolet (Merriam, Kan.) and Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet (San Diego, Calif.). They are expected to be priced at $76,181.
“We’re flattered to have been selected by Rick Hendrick to build these special cars,” said Reeves Callaway, founder of Callaway Cars. “We have the highest respect for his organization, and the cars we will build under the Hendrick name will represent the best of our styling, engineering and manufacturing abilities. The whole Callaway organization appreciates this opportunity to showcase Callaway Cars’ engineering skills.”
“Since Chevrolet introduced the new Camaro in the same year that Hendrick Motorsports is celebrating our 25th anniversary season, we thought it would be exciting to combine the two,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Callaway is a leader in our industry, and we’ve always been very impressed with their engineering and manufacturing expertise. We’re pleased to work with them on what will be 25 truly special cars.”
