Hendrick Motorsports drivers draw spots for Saturday's Budweiser Shootout

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 5, 2010) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 National Guard/AMP Energy Chevrolet, will have the highest starting position of his Hendrick Motorsports teammates when the green flag is waved for Saturday's Budweiser Shootout. Earnhardt drew the 11th starting spot during Thursday's selection show. He is a two-time winner in the 75-lap exhibition event and most recently visited Victory Lane here in 2008 -- his first season with Hendrick Motorsports. Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 GoDaddy.com, drew the highest starting spot -- sixth -- but an incident during Thursday night's practice means the NASCAR veteran will line up at the rear of the field. Martin, who will be using his backup Chevy in the Shootout, will be making his 22nd career start -- the most of any current full-time competitor -- on Saturday. Jimmie Johnson, the four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, will start 16th. The driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet won this event in 2005. Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, drew the 23rd starting position. Gordon, who won in 1994 and 1997, has appeared in every Shootout event since 1994 for a streak of 16 straight starts. Race coverage of Saturday's event starts at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
