'Ultimate Speed' event benefits Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 27, 2010) – The Jeff Gordon Foundation, with presenting sponsor Pacific Technical Resources, Inc., hosted the Foundation’s annual “Ultimate Speed” go-kart event at Victory Lane Karting on Wednesday. Proceeds from the event will help purchase state-of-the-art cardiac/respiratory monitors for the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord. John Roberts, host of SPEED Channel’s NASCAR Raceday and Victory Lane, emceed as 21 teams in nine different heats raced four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon. The event also featured a live auction and the dinner was catered by Paventi’s Pizza. Prior to the green flag waving, Gordon announced the Foundation’s efforts to fund 14 Phillips IntelliVue Cardiac/Respiratory monitors needed in the Pediatric Unit. The new monitors will have a bandage-type saturation probe which more accurately and comfortably assesses oxygen levels in the patient’s blood during their stay at The Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital. These monitoring systems will reduce the risk of human error and increase available staff time to care for other pediatric patients. “Our Pediatric Unit at Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital currently uses several individual pieces of equipment to monitor the cardiac and respiratory status of our patients,” said Brandi Newman, Director of Women’s & Children’s Services, NorthEast Medical Center. “One cardiac/respiratory monitor performs the functions of all the various pieces of equipment, providing more accurate monitoring which could lead to better treatment and outcomes for our patients. Our patients truly deserve the highest level of care.” The Presenting Sponsor of this year’s event, Pacific Technical Resources Inc., partnered to show their support and passion for the efforts put forth by The Jeff Gordon Foundation. Their involvement in “Ultimate Speed” enhanced the opportunity for the Foundation to provide the Jeff Gordon Children’s hospital with the highest quality of medical equipment available. “I couldn’t be more proud to be involved with a hospital that is continuously striving for new and innovative ways to advance their programs and medical care,” said Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. “The Foundation takes great pride in its ongoing relationship with the children’s hospital.” The Jeff Gordon Foundation remains committed to improving the support, funding and specialized care for pediatric patients at the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital.
