FONTANA, Calif. – Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, led his Hendrick Motorsports teammates to capture the 10th-place starting position during Friday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Auto Club Speedway. In 19 Cup starts at the racetrack, Martin has one win, six top-five finishes, 10 top-10s and has led 324 laps.
Martin’s teammates rounded out the top-30 for the qualifying event, which determined the lineup for Sunday’s 400-lap race at the Fontana racetrack.
Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, qualified 16th. In 16 Cup starts, he has five wins, 11 top-five finishes and 12 top-10s.
Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet, scored the 29th starting position. In 21 Cup starts, Gordon has three wins, 10 top-five finishes and 11 top-10s.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet, recorded the 30th starting position. In 18 Cup events at Fontana, Earnhardt has three top-five finishes and four top-10s, and he’s led 28 laps.
Pre-race coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX, and the green flag is scheduled to wave at 3 p.m.
