FORT WORTH, Texas – Jimmie Johnson scored the sixth-place starting spot during Friday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Texas Motor Speedway. His Hendrick Motorsports teammates rounded out the top 32.
Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s/KOBALT Tools Chevrolet, has one win, seven top-five finishes and 11 top-10s at the 1.5-mile oval. He earned his one victory there in November 2007 after starting eighth.
Mark Martin drove his No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet to pick up the 21st starting spot for Saturday’s race, which will be aired at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX. Martin has scored one win, seven top-five finishes and 12 top-10s at Texas.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will roll off the grid 28th in his No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet. Earnhardt has one win, three top-five finishes and eight top-10s at the Fort Worth racetrack.
Jeff Gordon will start 32nd in his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet for Saturday’s 501-mile event. Gordon has one win, seven top-five finishes and nine top-10s at Texas.
