CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Seattle Seahawks NFL quarterback Russell Wilson and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne, a Washington native, have partnered together to co-host a major fundraising event known as "The DRIVE" next summer in the Seattle area.
The DRIVE, which will be held June 23-24 at award-winning Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash., will feature a celebrity concert and golf tournament with the goal of driving awareness of Boys & Girls Clubs of King County and raising funds for the club's programs that support feeding young people and educating children on living a healthy lifestyle.
Joining Wilson and Kahne at The DRIVE will be fellow NFL players and NASCAR drivers, plus other sports and entertainment celebrities, which will be announced closer to the event.
Wilson is an active volunteer and supporter within the Seattle community. A regular visitor to the Seattle Children's Hospital, Wilson also donates money to charity for every NFL touchdown he scores and in the off-season he hosts the Russell Wilson Passing Academy, a series of youth football camps that support diabetes awareness and funding.
"While Kasey has roots here in Washington, I'm working hard to grow mine in this community," said Wilson, who has led the Seattle Seahawks to an NFL-best regular season record this season. "Together, we plan to put on a great event that will move the Boys & Girls Club of King County further down the field in their mission of serving thousands of youth in the community."
Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet SS, established the Kasey Kahne Foundation ("KKF") in 2005 to raise awareness and funds to support charities that care for ill children and their families. The KKF also strives to empower youth and inspire their future by donating to programs dedicated to fulfilling children's needs for success. Through his foundation, Kahne has hosted several sprint car races in the state of Washington and also a charitable motorcycle ride to raise awareness and funding.
"It's very important to me to stay connected with the Seattle area and the state of Washington," said Kahne, an Enumclaw, Wash., native who has 16 career victories in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. "To have the opportunity to partner the Kasey Kahne Foundation with Seattle Seahawks star Russell Wilson is a privilege. Through our efforts, we are going to be able to give back to the community and bring awareness to the health and development of the Seattle area's youth."
More details regarding the event will be announced soon.
