Johnson, Gordon to start in the top eight on Sunday at Chicagoland

JOLIET, Ill. — Due to inclement weather, NASCAR officials cancelled today’s Sprint Cup qualifying session at Chicagoland Speedway. The field for Sunday’s race has been determined by the drivers’ times from today’s practice.

Leading Hendrick Motorsports to the green flag on Sunday is Jimmie Johnson, who will roll off the grid seventh. Teammate Jeff Gordon will start next to him in eighth, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne will begin the 267-lap race from the 13th and 19th positions, respectively.

Johnson’s career average starting position of 7.7 at Chicagoland is the second-best all-time among drivers in NASCAR’s premier league. Gordon and Kahne both hold an 11.6 average starting position, while Earnhardt’s average start at the track is 17.1.

Sunday’s race at Chicagoland will begin at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN. Check local listings.
