Earnhardt, Gordon to bring winning chassis to Kansas

CONCORD, N.C. -- This Sunday, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive some familiar cars.

The respective Drive to End Hunger and Diet Mountain Dew paint schemes adorning their Chevrolet SS vehicles will be recognizable -- but so will the chassis underneath.

At Kansas Speedway, Earnhardt and the No. 88 crew will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-810. That just so happens to be the chassis that Earnhardt drove to Victory Lane at both Pocono races this season.

“We have had fast cars all season but it hasn’t been a good couple of weeks," Earnhardt said. "We are bringing the chassis that won both Poconos over the summer. So I’m looking forward to getting on track in Kansas and seeing what kind of speed we have.”

As for Gordon, he and the No. 24 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 24-895. That chassis helped bring Gordon a record-breaking fifth Brickyard 400 victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July, and in August Gordon led 68 laps from the pole position en route to a win at Michigan Speedway driving the same chassis.

He'll get to take it to a third race at a track where he leads all drivers with three career victories.

“We won at Kansas earlier this year, so we’re excited about this weekend," Gordon said. "We’d like to get another win to go ahead and clinch a spot in the Eliminator Round. But if we don’t, solid finishes this weekend and at Charlotte hopefully put us in a good position before Talladega.”
