Extended hours at Hendrick Motorsports campus during race week

CONCORD, N.C. -- It's race week in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Leading up to Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Hendrick Motorsports campus is gearing up for race fans to visit.

Visitors are welcome at no charge, and there’s plenty to see on campus, from getting to view the active race shops up close and personal to watching pit practice and even taking in some of the coolest cars, trophies and pieces of memorabilia from 30 years of Hendrick Motorsports racing.

In addition, the team store is offering a special -- a free gift with a purchase of $50 or more.

The museum features several authentic, right-off-the-track race cars, including Jimmie Johnson's 2013 Daytona 500 winner as well as Jeff Gordon's Daytona-winning cars from 1997, 1999 and 2005.

There is also an exploded chassis for viewing the inner workings of the car, engine parts and blocks, and all 11 of Hendrick Motorsports' Cup championship trophies are proudly displayed.

The store and museum are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday this week. On Thursday and Friday, they will open an hour earlier at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. On race-day Saturday, the team store and museum will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. in advance of the 7:30 p.m. race.

Meanwhile, the race shops for the Nos. 5, 24, 48 and 88 teams will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday this week. On Saturday, the hours echo those of the museum and team store -- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Sunday following the race, while the race shops will be closed, the team store and museum will open at 10 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.

A new entrance to the campus is now open. From Interstate 85, take exit 49 -- Bruton Smith Boulevard. Take Bruton Smith Boulevard east toward Charlotte Motor Speedway for 0.4 miles, then turn right at a stoplight onto Papa Joe Hendrick Boulevard.
