CONCORD, N.C. -- Last month, Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham teamed up once again to bring a car back to its glory days.

The last race the pair won as a driver-crew chief duo came in 1999, with Gordon driving the No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

So Gordon and Evernham decided to restore the vehicle in order to auction it at Barrett-Jackson in January.

"It was fun to create a new team with Ray and forge a stronger relationship with Pepsi," Gordon said. "It was cool to work with Ray in that capacity, and that car was so memorable. And to think that was our final race win together."

All of the proceeds from the sale would be donated to the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation. And the number the car drew was impressive.

According to Motor Racing Network, the bidding was at $450,000 when Gordon offered to throw in his uniform and an autographed helmet. That pushed the total to a half million dollars.

The entire process -- from the restoration to the auction -- was documented as part of Evernham's AmeriCarna on Velocity.

The show, which already featured Dale Earnhardt Jr. taking a ride in the final car Elvis Presley ever drove, airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

The AmeriCarna YouTube channel has shared a quick preview of the new episode, featuring a humorous exchange between Evernham, Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick.

Evernham and Gordon asked for an engine and a transmission, and Hendrick happily obliged.

"I'm impressed you asked me about the parts this time," he joked. "Usually you just take them."
