CONCORD, N.C. – Everything is bigger in Texas.
Hendrick Motorsports drivers are heading to the Lone Star State this weekend and looking for a big win at Texas Motor Speedway.
Over the years, the 1.5-mile oval has provided Hendrick Motorsports with big races, wins and moments.
Before heading to the track, let’s take a look back at three memorable Hendrick Motorsports moments at Texas.
April 6, 2008 – Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in his first season driving for Hendrick Motorsports. Texas was only the seventh race of the season and Earnhardt earned his first pole position with the organization. Sitting on the pole when the green flag dropped, Earnhardt led 13 laps and eventually finished the 500-mile race 12th. He went on to win later in the season at Michigan.
Nov. 2, 2008 – Jeff Gordon started his weekend at Texas by winning his first pole at the 1.5-mile track. At the beginning of the race, he led the pack for 15 laps and stayed near the front for the entire 334-lap race. When the checkered flag waved, Gordon ended the race as the runner-up. The four-time champion finished the 2008 season seventh in the point standings.
Nov. 4, 2012 – Jimmie Johnson won at Texas in 2007 and he was looking for his second Victory Lane cowboy hat. He started from the pole position and led the race for 168 laps. In an exciting green-white-checkered finish, Johnson pulled out in front of the rest of the field and crossed the finish line first. He went on to win a race at Texas in each of the next two seasons.
