RICHMOND, Va. -- From the start of Sunday's race at Richmond International Raceway, it was obvious Kasey Kahne wouldn't stay near the back of the pack for long.

Kahne, who rolled off the grid 40th, gained 20 positions within 50 laps on the 0.75-mile track.

By the time 100 laps had elapsed, Kahne had already found the top 10. From a 40th-place start, the driver of the No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS eventually drove his way all the way into the top five, ultimately taking home a sixth-place result.

“I was happy with the way the day ended up," Kahne said. "The team did a good job. The pit stops were consistent and strong all day."

It marked his fourth top-10 finish of the season, leaving him sixth in the point standings.

In the process of weaving through the field, Kahne was credited with 74 green-flag passes, the second-most in the race -- just ahead of teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr. with 65, Chase Elliott with 64 and Jimmie Johnson with 63.

He was one of three Hendrick Motorsports drivers to finish inside the top 10 Sunday.

"I would say our best race of the year there, at least it felt like one of our better ones," Kahne said. "I felt good about that and we just have to keep working."
