CONCORD, N.C. -- No Hendrick Motorsports drivers made the final round of Thursday's qualifying session at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
But if there's ever a race with time to make up ground, it's Sunday's 600-mile event.
"The good thing is it's a long race," Kasey Kahne said. "The track is really wide at first when it's sunny out. So it shouldn't be too big of an issue getting toward the front and then just having a good car from there."
Jimmie Johnson will lead the five Hendrick Motorsports drivers -- including Chase Elliott -- to the green flag in 13th.
Just behind him will be Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 15th.
Jeff Gordon was the third Hendrick Motorsports driver to make the second round, and will start Sunday's race from the 18th position.
"It's disappointing but the car does have a lot of speed," Gordon said, "so looking forward to Sunday."
Elliott, who is set to make his third career Sprint Cup points-race start, will roll off the grid 28th.
After turning in the third-fastest speed in Thursday's practice, Kahne qualified 33rd due to a tire issue. The No. 5 LiftMaster Chevrolet SS had a leak in the left rear tire, and though the No. 5 crew attempted to add enough extra air to the tire to allow Kahne to get another shot at improving his position, the tire wouldn't cooperate.
"I didn't know why I was sliding so much, but it makes sense now," Kahne said. "Glad I made it back around. We were going to put a ton of air in it and just try to make one run, but the air was coming out as fast as we were putting it in, so we couldn't even get it pumped up."
Matt Kenseth took home the pole position.
