CONCORD, N.C. – This weekend, Hendrick Motorsports drivers are heading to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first of two races at “The Magic Mile” this season.
Hendrick Motorsports has been racing at the 1.058-mile oval since 1993 and has seen many wins and gained many memories at the track.
But before the engines are fired and the cars race for 301 laps, let’s take a look back at three very memorable Hendrick Motorsports moments at New Hampshire.
June 9, 1995 – It was only Jeff Gordon’s third start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but he was hoping to turn his Loudon luck around. After qualifying 21st, he knew it would not be an easy task to get to the front of the pack, but he did so anyway. By Lap 38, Gordon was already leading the race. He went on to lead 126 laps and ultimately earned his first victory at the 1.058-mile oval.
Sept. 14, 2003 – Jimmie Johnson was back in New Hampshire for the second time that season as the reigning track champion, having won there several months before. When the green flag dropped, Johnson rolled off in the eighth position. He eventually led 12 laps of the race and crossed the finish line more than six seconds ahead of the rest of the field to claim the checkered flag. Johnson finished the 2003 season with three wins.
July 15, 2012 - Kasey Kahne began the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June, 15 2012, from the front row in the second position. He battled to take the lead for most of the race, but with 66 laps to go Kahne finally took over the top spot and stayed there all the way to Victory Lane. This was one of two races that Kahne won in the 2012 season.
