INDIANAPOLIS—Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS, will lead his teammates at the start of Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Succeeding to the final round of qualifying, Earnhardt will roll of the grid in eighth.
The 2008 Brickyard 400 pole winner Jimmie Johnson, driving the No. 48 Lowe’s/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet SS, will take the green flag in 12th. Johnson joined Earnhardt in the second and final round of qualifying.
Jeff Gordon, piloting the No. 24 3M Chevrolet SS, and Kasey Kahne, competing in the No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet SS, will start 19th and 27th, respectively.
Hendrick Motorsports’ youngest teammate, and driver of the No. 25 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet SS, Chase Elliott successfully earned his way into his first Brickyard 400 race and will roll of the grid in 28th.
“We had a really good mock-qualifying run at the end of practice yesterday,” Elliott said. “I felt really good about it. I wish we could have qualified better today but, but I’m really happy to be in the show.”
Carl Edwards will lead the 43-car field to green on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
