CONCORD, N.C. – It’s Watkins Glen week.
With just five races left until the start of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers shared their thoughts as they prepare to take on the road course.
“Watkins Glen is a fast road course. It’s much faster than Sonoma that we go to in June. It’s an interesting track. It’s a fun track. It’s tough to pass at times. If you can get on the right pit sequence you can usually make up a lot of time and a lot of ground. Hopefully we can do that this week. I really enjoy racing at The Glen.”
Kasey Kahne
“I think road-course races are some of the best races, and a lot of that may have to do with the double-file restarts. Watkins Glen is a very fast, very demanding track where you have to attack and push the limits of yourself and the car. I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Last year, I thought we were really strong there, but we had a battery issue and spent time behind the wall replacing it.”
Jeff Gordon
“We would like to check Watkins Glen off the list of winless tracks for the No. 48 team. As far as road courses go, we had a good run in Sonoma. Watkins Glen is a little different, the elevation changes aren't as severe. The track is a lot wider. The track has a lot more grip in it. I like the area and enjoy racing there."
Jimmie Johnson
“When we run the Glen, it’s straightaway then turn, straightaway then turn. I think I can provide more feedback with the car at the Glen more so than I can at Sonoma. I’m looking forward to this weekend. We’ve had some good road-course runs. We are going to go there with no pressure and have fun and try to get a great finish.”
