CONCORD, N.C. -- With Michigan International Speedway in the rearview mirror, just three races remain before the start of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
And the 16-driver field is still up in the air.
The intrigue, as the regular season winds down, currently surrounds spots 12 through 16.
Following his 15th-place finish at Michigan, Jeff Gordon holds the 15th position, though he trails the 14th-place competitor by just one point. He is 15 points behind 12th-place Jamie McMurray, who has the most points of drivers without a win this season.
Kasey Kahne, though currently out of the Chase Grid, is just 26 points behind Clint Bowyer, who has the final spot in the field.
At the top of the grid is Jimmie Johnson, who continues to hold down the first seed with four wins in 2015.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is currently slated sixth, 34 points behind fifth-place Joey Logano, who also has two wins on the season.
Up next is Bristol Motor Speedway, one of 10 tracks where Hendrick Motorsports has earned 10 or more wins.
Kahne was the organization's most recent winner at the track, starting second and leading 109 laps en route to Victory Lane in March 2013.
