CONCORD, N.C. -- Kasey Kahne knows a thing or two about earning a Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup spot down the stretch.
In 2014, Kahne led the final two laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway, then the penultimate race before the Chase, in order to clinch a postseason berth. The win was his first win of the season and his 17th career victory. Kahne earned the lead from Matt Kenseth in the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish and won the race by 0.574 seconds.
That's why this season, with three races remaining in the regular season, Kahne is happy with the mindset of the No. 5 team.
"I think the (No.) 5 team is in a good spot," he said. "Bristol is a good track for us. Darlington, we've been close since 2004 at that track and just haven't pulled it off. So eventually I will. And Richmond, we ran really well in the spring there, so we can come back with that and hopefully even be better than what we were then.
"So, it's all tracks that we can perform, we can get points and have an opportunity to hopefully win."
