CONCORD, N.C.—This past weekend at Martinsville Speedway, Kasey Kahne joined Chevrolet in their efforts to support and spread awareness for breast cancer.
As a part of Chevrolet’s program, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Chevrolet donated $350 for each caution lap taken in the pink Chevrolet SS pace car during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 25 and Martinsville Speedway on Nov. 1.
Prior to the races, the American Cancer Society and Chevrolet hosted breast cancer survivors, treating them to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Kahne, along with three additional Chevrolet drivers, took the participating survivors and caregivers around the tracks in the official pink Chevrolet SS pace car.
Additionally, the driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet SS joined in on the social campaign, #IDriveFor.
This campaign encouraged fans to tweet @TeamChevy on Twitter using #IDriveFor. Each tweet would submit the name of a loved one affected by breast cancer, giving the name the potential to be placed on the pink pace car. The first 400 names submitted were incorporated into the pink paint scheme, while $5 were donated to the American Cancer Society, by Chevrolet, for every tweet, retweet and Instagram post that used the hashtag.
In last year’s event, in which Kahne participated in the painting of the Martinsville Speedway curb pink, the Pink Pace Car Campaign raised $46,500.
