CONCORD, N.C. -- As soon as Jeff Gordon jumped out of his No. 24 AARP Member Advantages Chevrolet SS in Victory Lane at Martinsville Speedway, he had a phone call waiting for him.
It was Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick ready to congratulate him after a thrilling finish.
In the video below, Hendrick relays what it was like for him to watch the driver earn his ninth grandfather clock trophy.
"I was at home watching it on TV and screaming, 'Come on, Jeff!'" Hendrick recalled, smiling.
"I think the neatest thing about it was the fan reaction and knowing that he had punched his ticket to Homestead. What a great way for him to go out."
