CONCORD, N.C. -- Winning 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships requires a lot of hard work and manpower -- and not to mention, space. Check out these fun facts about the expansive Hendrick Motorsports campus.
1) The original Hendrick Motorsports campus consisted of just 5,000 square feet of work space. It has grown to a 430,000-square-foot facility that sits on 140 acres. The campus is continually expanding as new projects get underway.
2) The Concord, North Carolina, campus houses a total of 12 buildings, including the race shops, museum and team store, engine shop and various offices.
3) The race shops are open to visitors Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Museum & Team Store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
4) Located at the top of the hill on campus is a row of old blue garages that belonged to Harry Hyde. Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick originally rented space to store his equipment for his dragboats before he began Hendrick Motorsports, with Hyde as the first crew chief.
5) Employees can take advantage of the campus’ numerous health facilities, including the gym, classes such as boot camp and yoga, as well as walking/running groups that meet during lunch break.
6) Today, just over 600 employees work on the Hendrick Motorsports campus. In 1984, the original staff consisted of just five team members.
7) A previous No. 24 race shop for Jeff Gordon and his team is now a team center designed for events, classes and other functions, such as the 2016 Hendrick Motorsports employee kickoff luncheon that was held there this past Monday.
8) The pond on campus has been stocked with fish so employees can bait some hooks during lunch breaks over the summer.
9) The turf on the performance field where employees and pit crews can train is the same type used by NFL teams.
