TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Chase Elliott led the Hendrick Motorsports qualifying efforts Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway by securing his second-career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole position.
Saturday's two rounds of single-car qualifying saw all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers advance to the second and final round, all vying for a top starting position for Sunday's 188-lap race.
At the track where his father holds the qualifying record, Elliott earned the pole position for Sunday's race with a one-lap time of 49.704 seconds and a speed of 192.661 mph.
"This is a team effort," Elliott said on pit road following the final round of qualifying. "Those guys -- everybody in the Nos. 5 and 24 shop in particular, everybody at Hendrick Motorsports and obviously NAPA AUTO PARTS and all our partners-- this is cool. Those guys do such a good job. As I said in Daytona, this had nothing to do with me. This is the same car we had in Daytona and they brought another fast one here."
This pole has Elliott two-for-two at restrictor-plate tracks after winning the same award for his very first Daytona 500 in February.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson will also roll off the grid inside the top-five, in third and fifth, respectively.
Kasey Kahne rounds out the organization's qualifying efforts by securing an 11th-place starting position.
Make sure to tune in to tomorrow's race, beginning at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
