CONCORD, N.C. – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing action returns to the “Monster Mile” this weekend, the

Hendrick Motorsports boasts a successful resume at Dover, including 18 wins, 57 top-five finishes, 93 top-10s and nine poles.

Dover International Speedway is tied for second with Charlotte Motor Speedway as the track where Hendrick Motorsports has logged the most wins with 18 total victories. The one-mile track also ranks second for the most laps-led for the organization with 6,393.

Before the racing action starts however, take a look back at three memorable moments for Hendrick Motorsports at Dover International Speedway.

Sept. 15, 1996: Jeff Gordon already had two wins at Dover when he arrived in the fall of 1996, one of those wins taking place just earlier that year in the spring event. Starting in third, Gordon was responsible for seven of the 28 lead changes throughout the 500-lap race en route to the win. Gordon accumulated two more victories at Dover during his career, in 2001 and 2014.

June 2, 2002: In just his first Cup start at Dover, Jimmie Johnson started in 10th and led the most laps en route to his first career track win and second overall win of the season. Johnson’s teammate Gordon also joined him in the top 10 with a sixth-place finish. On his second visit to the “Monster Mile” in the fall of 2002, the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet made a clean sweep of the track by claiming the win once again. Johnson has since logged eight more wins at Dover for a total of 10.

Sept. 29, 2013: Dale Earnhardt Jr. logged a first during his trip to Dover in fall 2013. Although he had one previous win to his name at the track, he still had not earned a pole position. That changed when he laid down a one-lap time of 22.243-seconds at a speed of 161.849 mph around the “Monster Mile.” Earnhardt led 80 laps of the 400-lap event but was the second Hendrick Motorsports driver to cross the finish line behind the winner, Johnson. Their teammate, Gordon, also took the checkered flag inside the top five in fourth.
