CONCORD, N.C. -- Thursday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway provided mixed results for the four Hendrick Motorsports teammates.
Two qualified their way into the final round, while two did not move past the first round.
In the end, Jimmie Johnson earned the right to lead the Hendrick Motorsports teammates to the green flag, qualifying seventh.
Chase Elliott will begin Sunday's race from the 12th position.
"We got a decent qualifying spot," Elliott said. "We're happy to make the last round -- hate to be last in the last round, but we'll take it."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 25th after narrowly missing the 24-car cutoff to advance to the second round.
"Just being frustrated," Earnhardt said, noting that it was tough to get the car dialed in.
Kasey Kahne will roll off the grid 29th.
"First run I got loose and had to lift a bit off of (Turn) 2," Kahne explained. "We never really got it today, but Saturday's a big day to prepare for the 600."
Martin Truex Jr. took the pole position.
The 600-mile race is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
