CONCORD, N.C. -- The 13-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., sat down with "Men's Fitness" for a Q&A session.
He covered many topics, including physical and mental race preparation, the best day of his career, the most memorable advice he ever received from his father, as well as the "Animal Whisperer" commercial he participated in for Nationwide.
Early in the article, he discussed how he keeps his mental focus inside the No. 88 Chevrolet SS.
"It becomes instinct," he said. "The car demands it. We’re going so fast, it’s dangerous, and you don’t know what moves a guy’s going to make next. You hit the track and the risk of spinning out and damaging the car puts a lot of responsibility on you, so you have to be plugged in from the minute you mash the gas."
