SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- Jimmie Johnson will lead his Hendrick Motorsports teammates to the green flag in Sunday's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Johnson, Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon advanced to the second round of Saturday's qualifying session but did not make it through to the final round.

Johnson will roll off the grid in 13th, with Elliott following him in 15th and Gordon in 21st.

"(No. 88 team crew chief) Greg (Ives) and the guys on this No. 88 Axalta team did a great job from yesterday, I thought we made some improvements," Gordon said. "That was a nice lap we put out there the first time, I hit all four corners like I was anticipating but we were a little bit tight and so we wanted to free the car up and when we went out that second time, unfortunately it just freed me up in the wrong areas. I got in the corner and I got real loose getting in. Once I lost all the momentum in Turn 1 the whole lap was kind of over."

Kasey Kahne was two positions shy from advancing to the second round and will take the green flag in 26th.

"We were just really loose getting from the wall to the white line the first run," Kahne said. "We tightened it up a good bit in the second run and it was much better. I just didn't get the lap I needed. We've got a ways to go. We'll have to play some strategy to get where we need to be. Hopefully we can figure it out."

Kyle Busch won the pole for Sunday's race.
