CONCORD, N.C. -- Tuesday night on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," the host challenged Jimmie Johnson to a race to open the show.
While Johnson's tactics were jokingly called into question, the seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champ took home the victory.
Later in the show, Johnson sat down with Colbert to talk about what it means to match Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty with seven titles.
"It's just a wild experience," he said. "It means so much to me to be able to tie those great icons of our sport. They've done so much for our sport. I still have a lot of years left of driving, so hopefully I can create my own legacy and leave my own mark in the sport and help grow it to the next level as they both did."
From there, the interview covered Gatorade baths, Taylor Swift songs and why Johnson thinks the greatest asset of a NASCAR driver is "being good at complaining."
