CONCORD, N.C. – Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship win made it a record-tying seven for Jimmie Johnson and a record-extending 12 for Hendrick Motorsports.

And for the Hendrick Motorsports engine powering the victory, it increased the Cup championship total to a whopping 14.

"It's amazing,” director of engine operations Jeff Andrews said Sunday night. “When you stop and think about it, it's really very humbling. But it's all about those people back in Charlotte tonight. They're the ones that make it happen."

The Hendrick Motorsports engine department now has 14 Sprint Cup championships to go along with the 377 total wins under its belt. Of those victories, 281 have come in Sprint Cup competition.

And in addition to the 14 Cup titles, Hendrick Motorsports engines have won two NASCAR XFINITY Series championships – including Chase Elliott’s in 2014 – and four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championships.

In the final Sprint Cup standings for 2016, Hendrick Motorsports engines powered five of the top 10 drivers -- including the champion.

"From our perspective, we're one small part of the picture,” Andrews said. “Just super proud of everybody in the engine department and all their hard work this summer. They worked hard, everybody bonded together, never quit, as we say, and just continued to work to bring something better to the racetrack.

“Just really proud of that group.”
