LAS VEGAS – Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Hendrick Motorsports teammates got off to a quick start.
Chase Elliott, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. all finished inside of the top 10 at the conclusion of the 80-lap Stage 1.
Elliott took the green checkered flag in fifth, with Johnson just behind him in seventh and Earnhardt next in 10th.
All three drivers received extra race points for finishing the stage within the top 10. Elliott added six points, Johnson picked up four and Earnhardt notched one.
Kasey Kahne, meanwhile, was knocking on the door of the top 10 until a late-race caution when the No. 5 team elected to take a longer pit stop to work on the car. He finished Stage 1 in 20th.
Martin Truex Jr. won Stage 1.
Stage 2 also consists of 80 laps before a final 107-lap segment.
