CONCORD, N.C. -- Monday night, the new kings of college basketball were crowned.

And Dale Earnhardt Jr. called it.

Before the NCAA tournament got underway, the driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS picked the University of North Carolina Tar Heels to win it all.

He followed along as the Heels made their way through the field, taking on Oregon in the Final Four to earn a spot in the championship game.

And as UNC prepared to take on the Gonzaga University Bulldogs for the national championship, Earnhardt's Hendrick Motorsports teammate was tuned in.

Kasey Kahne, a Washington native, was on the side of the Washington school -- Gonzaga.

In a back-and-forth game that featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes, the Tar Heels pulled away in the final minute thanks to a block, breakaway dunk and late steal to help seal a 71-65 victory.

That meant Earnhardt's pick to win it all did just that, and even though Kahne's rooting interest fell short, he was happy to have watched the nail-biter of a title game.
