FORT WORTH, Texas -- Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson was the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to post a qualifying time.
The only one of his teammates to pass pre-qualifying inspection, Johnson finished ninth in the first round. However, a post-lap spin resulted in tire damage on the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet SS and the team opted out of competing in Round 2 of qualifying.
Johnson will be credited with a 24th-place starting position.
Meanwhile, Kasey Kahne, Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were three of numerous drivers that did not make it onto the track to post qualifying times.
Elliott will take Sunday's green flag in 33rd, with Kahne and Earnhardt behind him in 35th and 37th, respectively.
“I don’t know what was wrong with our car going through tech," Earnhardt said, "but if you don’t make it you don’t get out there and I like that. I like the rules being the same for everybody. We will work on our car for tomorrow at practice, I am anxious to get more track time."
Kevin Harvick will start on the pole.
Tune in to Sunday's race at 1:30 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
